Canvas Flower Pin
Good morning everyone I have decided to take on Tonya Gibbs Challenge from the Artsy Addicts Facebook!! The color inspiration is drawn from the beautiful photo....RADIANT ORCHID is the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year.
I created a canvas flower pin!
You all know that Easter is right around the corner, this would be so beautiful to wear
or give as a lovely gift.
I started with a raw natural canvas flower (already per-made for you)...
I grabbed my different mist in the colors to match the challenge...
Started to spray and play!!
I added some cheese clothe, lace, pearls and handmade flower with
some beautiful per made flowers! Seam binding and a facet with paper glued behind it.
Tutorial-handmade flower
I took Tattered Angels-Pure Mistable Paper
I cut a rolled flower out of the paper, misted with water...took my glimmer mist
and a paint brush and dabbed on the color around the edges.
I rolled it up wet, unrolled and dry a little-then rolled up again glued
together....dried again! Whoola!

Thanks for stopping by today!
Don't forget still time to take part in the challenge on Artsy Addicts Facebook page....here is the link

ATC Digital Valentine

I was inspired by my friend to create an ATC size Valentine little pretty, using one of the digital prints by Marion that she has on her website here at www.marionsmithdesigns.com. This digital is one of the Garment District Mini Book printables, they can be used for so many more ideas in your creative projects.

ATC base measures 2.5 x 3.5, which I cut from a digital print, distressed the edges with a distressing tool and inked the edges. In the next photo I used a Sizzix die to cut the heart out of a piece of corganated cardboard, used glimmer glam to paint the heart with a splash of tattered leather glimmer mist.
Added some splats of glimmer glam and glimmer mist to the ATC, great texture. Then I decided I wanted to add some gesso but using my swirl stamp-I brushed on the gesso over the stamp and stamped away..it's a really cool technique. (make sure you wash your stamp right away with warm water)
see the closer look...nice texture
On the heart took some gesso on the tip of my finger and  brushed the edges of the heart then dried it with my heat tool, to make the gesso bubble...wicked cool effect.
Created this little pretty flower using tattered floral die with some linen fabric, glimmer misted and white washed with gesso, added a brad. Created a cluster of burlap, pearls and twine glued to the heart and the ATC is finished. Could be given the way it is, or add it to a card, scrapbook layout or even adorn a gift package.

Happy creating, Peggy Lee

Part 3-Garment District Mini Junk Journal

Putting this mini junk journal together has been so fun and creative, using up supplies that I have on hand and hoarding..lol yes I said it I am a HOARDER a scrap hoarder. I just can't seem to part with this or that of papers, lace and trims, buttons, etc...
First is the over all look of the mini junk journal (I need different binding rings) but it's looking good so far.
The cover still need special TLC, working on a flower arrangement right now for the finial post.
See the tiny clothes pin-that I glimmer misted with Tattered Angels (tattered leather), which made the tiny pin look so old weather looking...love it so much.
I cut smaller file folders for a unique insert along with pale blue shipping tags that I bought some time ago..that is one of my faves in my hoarding addiction.
Every little mini need a doilie or two, love how the white pops off the Kraft envelope along with Marion Smith's digital tag.

                                                                      old book pages

Here is the overall view of the mini-so much more to add and embellish, excited to finish this mini and to see all your journals made with the Garment District Printable by Marion Smith.

Happy creating, Peggy Lee

Part 2 Garment District Junk Journal Mini

Part 2 "Covers"
First I started with 6x8 chip board pieces covered with thin brown paper (crinkled first), used a embossing folder to give a vintage worn look. Misted with some glimmer mist tattered leather and patina, inked the edges with walnut stain distressed ink.
Below is my front cover and a peak at the insides (gutts) of my junk journal.
Sorry for such a short post, you know life catches us at times and things get busy even in our creating worlds.

Garment District: Mini Junk Journal by Peggy Lee
Part 1-prep work
While being sick this past weekend it gave me a chance to cut out all my printables, ink the edges to start my mini junk journal. I choose to use the Mini printable set along with some of the 8 1/2 x 11 pages that I printed on the back sides of the mini pages...and to use for my cover.
Here I have gathered more supplies for the guts of my mini junk journal: mini file folders, shipping tags, label tabs, doilies, graph paper, sketch paper, old book pages (from a Charm School Book) how fitting, Kraft card/envelopes...and I have so much more to add later.
I have prepared my mini junk journal covers, at 6 x 8 chip board pieces covered with thin brown paper. Inked in vintage photo distress ink with splashes of glimmer mist in tattered leather and patina. Now the hard part deciding which digital printable to use on my cover...oh man...that is going to be hard!!!!

Next Monday Part 2: Mini Junk Jouranl by Peggy Lee

You Make Me Smile - Garment District

Seriously this is one of my favorite printables by Marion Smith Designs.  The Garment district paper is just awesome and so versatile.  I shared with you guys a mini album, and layout.  Today I want to share with you a card I made from the scraps from both the Mini and the layout.

I sewed some of the smaller scraps together to create the background, and then proceeded to layer a few of the other journal cards, ephemera, and scraps together to form the focal point of the card. I used a spell binder's label die to showcase the sentiment. Then added some sprigs of flower pieces from a left over Prima vine.  The tiny roses are one of my all time favorite Prima flowers, and they are awesome for cards because of their size.

It is so fun using my scraps up, and creating such a wonderful piece.  The tiniest of pieces can be used as banners, or peeking from a layer.

Garment District: Mini Tag Album

I was in need of a mini album for a special gift and I wanted this mini album to be able to hold only a few photos. Laying on my desk top was a plain shipping tag, and I knew that's it I could create shabby chic mini tag album for my friend. I couldn't resist I knew the Garment District Printables were just perfect for the album, plus I could use up my scraps from my other projects.
Supplies: are simple one shipping tag to trace on backside of printable, pencil to trace and scissors to cut out tags. Distress inks (brushed corduroy) and edge distresser to rough up the edges, hole punch and eyelet setter.
Garment District printable scraps, journal spots and embellishments, assorted trims, twine, lace and buttons/gems.
Making sure to used 3D pop dots to help give depth and places to tuck in little gems here and there.
For the little trim on the bottom of the tags, was a pretty bright white, I used Perfect Pearl Mist (blue patina) to help tone down and give a hint of vintage.
Hope I have inspired you to create your own personal gift tags from the new Garment District Printable designs available at www.marionsmithdesigns.com

Handmade for you, Peggy Lee

Heritage Layout - Garment District

Garment District Printables from Marion Smith Designs have been at the top of my play list since I downloaded them. Last week,  I shared with you a little mini that I created using these papers. Today I want to share with you a layout I created using the scraps and left over designs that didn't make it to the mini.

I was digging in a box of stuff from my Grandmother's this past weekend, and I found this photo of a woman I believe to be my Great Great Aunt. There is very little information on the back of the photo; however, there is a note that says "Alice, here is the photo of Aunt Jessie's Sister" now I know that Jessie was my Great Grandmother's first name, so I figured out the relationship. I really wish I had a name of this beautiful woman, but that information was lost forever when my Grandmother and all her siblings passed away.  It is quite possible that she passed away at an early age, because my Mother wasn't sure who she was either.

This brings me to the point of today's post.

When I create a layout - you rarely see my journaling and sometimes the title is subtle. But the 5w's [Who, What, When, Where and Why] are always addressed somewhere on the piece. I love to hide my journaling behind photos on pull out tags because I find it distracting on the layout.  If the design doesn't offer an appealing display of the journaling it is written on the back of the base page.

We often forget to do this because we know the person in the picture, or all of our current family members know the person. It is kind of one of those things that our mind tells us it isn't necessary because everyone knows the person. As time passes the information is lost much like it is with the subject of my layout share today.

While I know little about this woman, I know that Marion's collection fits the time period this photo was taken. It is probably safe to assume that she sewed since it was common in this era for women to make their own clothing.

I love how Marion's Garment district showcases this photo.  I used a lot of layers to frame the photo. This gives the photo more presence on the 12x12 layout.  Although I may not know the name of the woman in the photo, I was able to capture the information that I did know on the back of the layout.

Also note that this is not the original photo, I scanned and reprinted the photo used in the layout.

Thanks for stopping in today,

I hope you have a great weekend.

Two of a Kind / Garment District Layout

Besties-two of a kind girlfriends since second grade my daughter Olivia and her best friend Mikaela. Who both are now miles apart in colleges but are so close in heart. I knew when I saw this picture that I had to use the new Garment District Printables by Marion Smith.
The printables are 8.5 x 11 (with a 1/4 boarder making them slightly smaller) perfect for creating a 12x12 layout with layering. To save on the paper I stacked three of my fav's on top of each other marked where to trim out (cut a good size square of paper out of the middle-to save for another project) scraps work great for cards or tags.
12 x12 card stock base I used a script stamp, inked edges and brushed on white paint randomly to help fill in the edges.
I used the Tim Holtz Alterations Distressed Doily die to make a frame around the photo. What girl doesn't want a shabby chic dress form to dress up the layout!
Then I fussy cut out the roses from another sheet to help bring out the roses on the base paper. Added some Prima flowers and embellishments with tulle and peals.
Loved the two ladies that comes in the Add-ons a journal spot just fussy cut them out and tucked them in around the photo.
little tip-see the ruler under the dress form (that is from one of the pages I cut a strip off, snipped it to desired length inked the edges and popped up to give depth. so cute...

Tip of the day-don't let the size of the printable discourage you for doing 12 x 12 layouts or anything you desire to create-look at it, rethink it, arrange it before you glue down. You will create your very own master piece!!

Happy Scrappin-Peggy Lee

Garment District Mini Album

Garment District is the latest digi collection by Marion Smith Designs. It is full of rich color tones, and vintage dressmaker style ads.  The designs print as a full bleed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper which make it easy for you to design your own cards, layouts, mini albums, journals, or altered projects.   There are a few add ons to this kit that includes journal cards, ephemera and extra page designs.

I decided to make this simple mini using policy envelopes.  The album took about an hour to put together. It would make an awesome gift for someone, or a personal journal.  I thought about cataloging some of my fav. Sewing tips in this little cutie.

Here are the instructions on how to put the mini book together.

To see a complete walk through of the mini please watch this video.

Have you created any projects with this collection?  If so, please post them in Artsy Addicts and be sure to tag me in the photo.  I would love to see your creations.

Fussy Cutting "Congrats Card"

Good morning to all, it's a cloudy day here in New England with the temps reaching a low 30 degrees last night. It's a bit chilly this morning while having my hot cup of coffee curled up in a blanket. I just couldn't take my eyes off this little beauty, created out of Marion Smith's new printable kit "Garment District" which you can purchase over on her website at www.marionsmithdesigns.com. It's a lovely 8.5x11 prints that you can use in so many ways: cards, scrapbooking layouts, journals, wedding album, tags, altered art and so much more.
 Here is how I started:
1. Printing all the digital pages out and start cutting,
2. Card base is white card stock cut down to 4 1/4 x 6.
3. First layer-cut down one of the printables to 4x5 3/4, and I ran that piece through the cuddle bug with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. Brushed distress ink pumice stone over the raised areas.
4. Cut a paper doilie (1/4 off) place over that embossing layer, (tip-don't glue down the top doilies that is showing-only the back side).
5. Created a small tag by tracing on a journal line printable, inked edges added some twine and button. Slide the tag under the Dollie.
6. Fussy cut out the roses from a printable sheet pop dotted it up to give some depth, punched out some tiny butterflies and adorned with little pretties trims/lace/mother of pearl buttons/gems. (every card needs some bling!)
7. Last used a tiny chipboard tag covered with some scraps from the first layer, stamped the word "Congrats" This will make a great wedding card, graduating card, or skies the limits.
I just love the rustic chic feel of these printables!!
Here is a link to this amazing kit!

I am so excited to see what you all will create with this fabulous, pretty kit! Please be sure to share with us on our facebook page "Artsy Addicts".
