Altered Photo Tray | My favorite things....

Happy Thursday everyone.

We're over the hump and the week is almost at the close. The weekend so close you can taste it. Just like the end of the school year for all us teachers out here. The kids are feeling a little squirly with anticipation, but school is still in full swing.

Also in full swing is the Texas weather. It's been crazy down here ya'll <---bonified TEXAS vernacular!! There's been rain storms, cold weather, and humity in the same week. Not a good feeling for allergy sufferers like me. Thank goodness for Xyrtec.

Anywhoo, in hopes of bringing the wonderful summer feeling into my craft room I decided to alter this cute 7 Gypsies photo tray this week. It's been eyeing me from under my sewing table for the past few weeks, and while I was rearranging craft supplies the other day things just seemed to fall into place. I found a bunch of Vintage Trinkets that Marion designed,  my collection of feathers caught my eye, and everything just came together in a beautiful blur.

I also used Marion's Rolled Roses printable as well. It took me a few tries to get it just right, and even then I still wasn't 100% satisfied. Tucking that rose in the corner of this photo tray with a bit of hot glue made me very unfrustrated happy. That's were I started this entire project.

Everything else seemed to fit just right in the nooks of the frame and I'm so happy with the outcome. I don't "do" many altered projects but I'm definitely pleased with the outcome of this one. Plus is showcases some of my favorite things: Feathers, Flowers, Bling, and charms.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Birthday Card

Hi everyone, I know this month is turning into quite a busy month for lots of you with school winding up, Mother's Day this weekend and travel plans for summer.  My house is NO different.  I can't seem to figure out if I'm coming or going.

Today I wanted to share with you a simple card that I made a while back as a birthday card.  I used some scrap paper cut into banners and hexagons to create an interesting background.  This card design is a perfect way to eleminate scraps in your stash. I also took advantage of a Girl's Paperie ephemera frame that has been around for a while.

While writing this post, I realized that this design could be re-purposed as a many different themes by just changing the sentiment and the paper collection.

I hope all the Mothers out there have a great Mother's Day.

Thanks for stopping in today,
Tonya Gibbs

Spread Your Wings Tag

That's exactly how I felt this past weekend, I could have spread my wings and flown away! If I had wings well I could have created some. What a busy time it was you see my youngest daughter had Prom this past weekend and you all know how getting ready for Prom is so busy and sometimes crazy and a little stressful but in the end it's one of the most beautiful times in your teenagers life.
Along with busy weekend with Prom my oldest daughter who is away to college turned 20 years old on Sunday and since her college is only 3 hours away we decided to drive down and surprise her on her special day lets just say she cried and bear hugged us to death...what a blessed weekend.
Let's get to the tag before I start to cry!
"Spread Your Wings" fits so well with this tag it all started with the butterfly stamp from 7gypsies.
I had stamped the butterfly onto Canvas Corps Ivory Chipboard Handmade Paper oh my this paper is amazing and thick! I just randomly ripped a piece off  then stamped the butterfly. Also stamped another butterfly on a separate piece of the same paper to cut out and pop up to give the butterfly some movement and depth.
Colored with a couple of markers, added some splatters of Tattered Angels Graphite glimmer mist.
And this is the end result-Love It!
Tag Tutorial
Step 1: I stamped randomly on some tissue paper to create my own background.
Step 2: On my craft sheet sprayed different colors of blue mist from Tattered Angels, then dipped the tag repeatedly into mist to give color depths. (this part is really cool because it's always different every time).
also used Graphite glimmer mist in areas for shading...same as above.
Step 3: Using gel medium glued the tissue paper to both sides of tag.
Step 4: This part is one of my faves I laid down a Prima crackle mask and using stucco and gesso smoothed over the mask to give the tag some peaks and depth...let it dry.
Step 5: Burlap Flower and Leaves-using Canvas Corps colored burlap in slate grey and smokey blue perfect colors to match the tag...I cut the burlap to fit over the Tattered Floral die by Tim Holtz. I also used the Tattered Leaves die by Tim Holtz in the natural burlap for the leaves.
Since I used natural burlap I used Army Green Simply Sheer mist.
Amazing color!
Step 6: In order to keep the burlap flower from falling apart I used a nice layer of gel medium over the flowers and leaves to hold it's shape, plus you can mold your flower into shape. Let it dry then glue together.
And there you have your tag!
Also I did color seam binding and cheese cloth to match the blues with the same mist. Did some random stamping on the tag added some splatters with some glimmer mist. Then on Kraft card stock wrote in sharpie marker my title cut apart and outlined the words and adhered down.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I know I did while creating this tag and funny thing is my daughters Prom dress was the same shades of blue. Which gives me inspiration for a scrapbook layout with her Prom pics.
See inspiration is all around us...

Thanks for starting your week with me.

Featured Artist | Jessica Feliciano

Hi, my name is Jessica Feliciano, my small business name is Expressions By JMF, and this is my first blog ever!!

I don't even know where to begin, but here goes! I am a full-time Paralegal, a mother of 3 with 2 step-children, I started crafting in August of 2012, I was inspired by a trip to New Orleans…my husband and I walked past an art gallery and the artwork inside caught my attention…told him, "if they can do that and get it displayed, then so can I"…so I went to Michael's(after my trip of course) to buy materials to get started, but before I could even get to the back of the store, a display table with some paintings caught my eye…they were signing people up for Art classes at 50% off, I couldn't resist, so I signed up! After I got my supplies I went back up and saw that there was a jewelry table and classes available as well, I signed up for that too…and the rest is history!

I started mixed media shortly thereafter, I looked up how-to videos on YouTube and even made a few videos of my own. Everything started off as a hobby but now have turned into a small business adventure. I would love to be able to teach classes on all three of my crafts some day in the future. I am a self-taught artist and If I can learn and do, anyone else can too!

I am happy to be given this opportunity with Artsy Addicts…to be able to share my talent with you all. I hope for many other opportunities in the near future!

Tarnished Silver Tag

Last week I shared with you a card I created using the Tattered Angels' Naturally Aged Paint System Bare Metal Tarnished Silver.  Today I would like to share a second project that I created using the other pieces created in my sample video.

The background of the tag was embossed with a Cuttlebug - Clockworks embossing jacket after the card stock was dry. As you can see the card stock looks like embossed metal. Below is a sample of the dry paper before it was embossed and die cut into a tag. I really wanted you to see how much texture and shine these mediums give your projects.  Bonus - it is just card stock, not metal. This means it is light weight enough to be mailed, making it perfect for cards.  Also, it can be easily die cut, punched, embossed, or cut with your electronic cutters.

I used the 7Gypsies Paddington Stamp with Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink to give the appearance of dripping oil.  Then I covered over those splotches with Glimmer Mist, Almost Black, to give a little shine to the oil.  The sentiment was created in Photoshop CS6 using the Bookman Old Style Font, and attached to the tag with a 7 Gypsies Mini Paper Clip - SIDE NOTE:  LOVE THESE NEED CASES OF THEM - they come in several different colors, and are so tiny and cute.
I also cut a Sizzix Primitive Heart from chipboard after covering it with 7 Gypsies Paper tape from the Lille Collection. I love the contrast of the red against the sea of metallic colors. The heart was edged with a silver pigment ink pad from Color Box to make it looked finished. The 7 Gypsies Hardware - Industrial Gears were the perfect touch to bring my clockworks background to the foreground. I found a scrap of DCWV Tattered Time paper and was able to cut the clock face to add to the bottom.

As a reference here is the video I shared last week on how I created the background effect with the Tattered Angels Paint System.

I love how the finished tag came out. It would be perfect on the face of a masculine card, or as an embellishment on a scrapbook page.  Have you tried any of the Paint Systems yet?  If so, please post them on Facebook and be sure to tag me in the post.   I would love to see your creations.

Thanks for stopping in today,

The Girls

These are my girls!

I would like to take some time today to formally introduce you to the three people who really make Artsy Addicts run so smoothly! I thought I would give you all some insight at what these girls do every day for our awesome facebook group and blog!

First up is Angela Butler-Carter

I have known Angela since my first son Blake was about 5 months old! He's now six...omg he's going to be six! An-G has been such an awesome loyal friend for so long! She amazes me with every blog post because she is always on top of everything and her posts are impecable! (Did I spell that right An-G?) Anyway An-G is our facebook and blog manager, anything that has to do with the facebook or blog you can bet she's touched it in some way! She also manages the Artsy Addicts email, so you can blame her if you don't get a reply lol! Totally kidding! I know for a fact she probably checks all of our spelling and grammar, after all she is a school teacher! An-G also helps me on the back end to come up with creative new challenges and promotions. We also like to call her big boss, because she's very good at keeping us all in line! Thank you An-G you are so important to Artsy Addicts!

Tonya Gibbs!

Oh boy if I had known what I was getting into bringing this women on I would have.......ha jk! Tonya has so much darn energy it's scary sometimes! Tonya manages our Artsy Addicts facebook content and she also helps recruit guest bloggers for our blog. She has a great eye for talent and she's oober fun to be around! She's kind of the Mom of the group! Tonya also helps with our social media sites. Tonya shares a lot of techniques with all of us and is truly an amazing artist! Thank you Tonya!

Peggy Lee Baker

Now I wish with a last name like that, that it meant she bakes and sends us lots of goodies but we aren't that lucky! However I have known Peggy a long time as well and she is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Peggy is sort of our quality control manager on the blog and facebook, consider her the sheriff! She makes sure our facebook group and blog are spam free! Peggy also helps me with content publishing, she will re-publish my announcements and updates for me and she's so quick that you can bet anything I post is re-posted to another social media outlet in .20 seconds and 99% of the time I don't even ask her to do it! Thank you Peggy!

Angela, Tonya, and Peggy have become such a big help with my new journey with Canvas Corp, Tattered Angels, and 7gypsies as they have been creating like crazy for our blogs and facebook pages, make sure to check out their features and leave them a comment showing your support! I see such a bright future for these ladies and will support them in all their endeavors!

These three women are the gears and sprockets of Artsy Addicts, we simply cannot operate without them! Please leave a comment and show our team some love for all that they do but most importantly for bringing all of our creative minds together each day!

Love you girls!

xoxo
Marion Smith

Ooops! I forgot about Garett Smith!

Garett is the goober of the group lol! He keeps us laughing and also helps keep the estrogen levels at a safe level lol! Garett manages customer service and makes sure our girls here get the products they need for promotion. He is my right hand, but most of the time we just laugh at him! He's also our eye candy! (Well mine anyway!)

                 *********************************************************************

An-G HACK!!! An-G HACK!! Marion, I'm hacking your post because I can do that.......Ha!!

Of course in true Marion fashion she forgot to mention herself.

This is our fearless leader. She inspires us every single day and is one of the nicest and most genuine people you will ever meet. She's simply beautiful from the inside out and it shows in her wonderful art. Marion encourages us to be our best self, to be authentic in our art and lives, and to be fearless in our creativity.

Marion is a mother of three, runs an art studio, teaches all over the world, and is a loving wife to her hottie husband Garrett. Marion has taught me so much about eating healthy and natural and she even turned my hate for glitter into an obsession. I'm still not a fan of the messiness of it but oh I love a glittered accent.

Leave a comment below telling us how you've been inspired by the blog and/or by Marion.

End of my HACK!! And I won't do it again.....unless necessary. lol.

"Welcome Home" Chalkboard Sign

With spring finally here on the East Coast, I decided I needed a little "welcome home" sign to welcome guest into our home. I started with a wooden sign that I primed with gesso added some crackle medium. When it was dry I painted the wooden sign with some acrylic paint in yellow ochre. Dragged Black Soot Distressed ink over the edges, I used a wet paint brush to smooth out the ink along with using different glimmer mist and perfect pearls powders to give a weathered look to the sign. Using stucco and gesso with a Prima mask adding a crackle all over the sign and chalkboard paper.
Canvas Corp makes different color clothespins which are amazing, I grabbed the natural clothespins and thought my graphite and slate blue glimmer mist would create a pretty weathered looking clothespins. I couldn't resist playing with color.
Canvas Corp makes different colors of burlap sheets which are fabulous!!!! I took the slate grey one for frame the chalkboard paper (which is stinking amazing) hot glued them both down to the sign added some stucco paste to the chalkboard paper here and there to give some depth to the sign. Glued the two clothespins down to the sign...
"welcome" banner is so adorable created with canvas paper sheet that I ripped a piece of cut into squares stamped the word "welcome" using black Stazon. I cut little bigger squares from the Kraft E-Flute sheet stitched them all together on my sewing machine then added to the clothespins. I just love the raw material look against the chalkboard paper.
Added some flowers and glimmer misted seam binding and fibers from the slate grey burlap...the word "home" is written in actual chalk!!!
I just love this little sign and it's ready to greet guest into our home.
Hope you all enjoy, hugs Peggy Lee
