OH CHRISTMAS TREE

Hi Artsy Addicts fans!
Peggy Lee here to share with you
a little mixed media canvas.
Even though it's still November and Thanksgiving is next week.
I have already started listening to Christmas music...one of my favorites is...
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
How lovely are Thy Branches
Love that song!!!
So with that I have been playing and creating tree theme artwork.

"OH CHRISTMAS TREE"
mixed media canvas
Using a Canvas Corp's canvas
I started by spraying some Heidi Swapp Color Shine
in Tinsel and Teal  and  Perfect Pearls Mists in many colors.
to create the background...adding texture
with Crafters Workshop stencils
and stucco/gesso mixture.
To create even more texture-randomly stamp all over canvas
also splatters of Color Shine and Perfect Pearls Mists!!
Cut out Tattered Leaves (Tim Holtz die) out of linen fabric...
colored with Distressed Stains in Bundled Sage and Forest moss.
Edged with Viva Precious Metal Effects Paint in Gold!
Covered the colored, stamps leaves with gel medium to give strength.
which helps shape the leaves in place.
Title "Oh Christmas Tree" hand written and backed in burlap mesh...
same burlap mesh became a tree trunk.
Tree leaves adorn with tiny real pine cones glittered with
Precious Metal Effects Paint in Gold
Garland is Canvas Corps jute rope...I love the woodies feel it gives the tree.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Happy Holidays,
Peggy Lee

Canvas Pocket Home Decor

I am really enjoying creating little home decor projects to adorn my home for the 4th of July celebration that is just around the corner...and I love grunge primitive wall pockets!
I had to create a little flag wall pocket using Canvas Corp's mini canvas shape pocket (which are great for creating mini banners). But a light turned on and I said ohhh a mini wall pocket with a glimmer mist painted flag would be adorable.

Here it is....
Mini Canvas Flag Wall Pocket!
The mini canvas pocket comes sewed up.
I carefully inserted my sharp scissors into the back of the pocket.
Being sure to only cut through one layer of the canvas.
Punched two tiny wholes on the corners to add wire through.
Tore a 1/4 inch canvas sheet strip.
Sprayed with tattered leather glimmer mist to grunge it up.
Hot glued to wire wrap, then wrapped canvas strip around the wire hanger.
Flag:
I freehand a flag in pencil.
Started to paint with Tattered Angels mist.
Blue: Imperial Blue Simply Sheer
Red: Chilli Pepper Red Simply Sheer
Grunge: Tattered Leather Glimmer Mist
Splats: Graphite Glimmer Mist
White: gesso
Star:
I traced on the back of E-Flute in White, cut out the star.
Grunged it up with Distress Ink-Brushed Corduroy.
Button from my stash.
Burlap twine to finish it off.
To finish this little prim wall pocket I added some cranberry pipe berries.
I love all the canvas strings hanging!

Thanks for stopping in,
Peggy Lee

Spread Your Wings Tag

That's exactly how I felt this past weekend, I could have spread my wings and flown away! If I had wings well I could have created some. What a busy time it was you see my youngest daughter had Prom this past weekend and you all know how getting ready for Prom is so busy and sometimes crazy and a little stressful but in the end it's one of the most beautiful times in your teenagers life.
Along with busy weekend with Prom my oldest daughter who is away to college turned 20 years old on Sunday and since her college is only 3 hours away we decided to drive down and surprise her on her special day lets just say she cried and bear hugged us to death...what a blessed weekend.
Let's get to the tag before I start to cry!
"Spread Your Wings" fits so well with this tag it all started with the butterfly stamp from 7gypsies.
I had stamped the butterfly onto Canvas Corps Ivory Chipboard Handmade Paper oh my this paper is amazing and thick! I just randomly ripped a piece off  then stamped the butterfly. Also stamped another butterfly on a separate piece of the same paper to cut out and pop up to give the butterfly some movement and depth.
Colored with a couple of markers, added some splatters of Tattered Angels Graphite glimmer mist.
And this is the end result-Love It!
Tag Tutorial
Step 1: I stamped randomly on some tissue paper to create my own background.
Step 2: On my craft sheet sprayed different colors of blue mist from Tattered Angels, then dipped the tag repeatedly into mist to give color depths. (this part is really cool because it's always different every time).
also used Graphite glimmer mist in areas for shading...same as above.
Step 3: Using gel medium glued the tissue paper to both sides of tag.
Step 4: This part is one of my faves I laid down a Prima crackle mask and using stucco and gesso smoothed over the mask to give the tag some peaks and depth...let it dry.
Step 5: Burlap Flower and Leaves-using Canvas Corps colored burlap in slate grey and smokey blue perfect colors to match the tag...I cut the burlap to fit over the Tattered Floral die by Tim Holtz. I also used the Tattered Leaves die by Tim Holtz in the natural burlap for the leaves.
Since I used natural burlap I used Army Green Simply Sheer mist.
Amazing color!
Step 6: In order to keep the burlap flower from falling apart I used a nice layer of gel medium over the flowers and leaves to hold it's shape, plus you can mold your flower into shape. Let it dry then glue together.
And there you have your tag!
Also I did color seam binding and cheese cloth to match the blues with the same mist. Did some random stamping on the tag added some splatters with some glimmer mist. Then on Kraft card stock wrote in sharpie marker my title cut apart and outlined the words and adhered down.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I know I did while creating this tag and funny thing is my daughters Prom dress was the same shades of blue. Which gives me inspiration for a scrapbook layout with her Prom pics.
See inspiration is all around us...

Thanks for starting your week with me.

"Welcome Home" Chalkboard Sign

With spring finally here on the East Coast, I decided I needed a little "welcome home" sign to welcome guest into our home. I started with a wooden sign that I primed with gesso added some crackle medium. When it was dry I painted the wooden sign with some acrylic paint in yellow ochre. Dragged Black Soot Distressed ink over the edges, I used a wet paint brush to smooth out the ink along with using different glimmer mist and perfect pearls powders to give a weathered look to the sign. Using stucco and gesso with a Prima mask adding a crackle all over the sign and chalkboard paper.
Canvas Corp makes different color clothespins which are amazing, I grabbed the natural clothespins and thought my graphite and slate blue glimmer mist would create a pretty weathered looking clothespins. I couldn't resist playing with color.
Canvas Corp makes different colors of burlap sheets which are fabulous!!!! I took the slate grey one for frame the chalkboard paper (which is stinking amazing) hot glued them both down to the sign added some stucco paste to the chalkboard paper here and there to give some depth to the sign. Glued the two clothespins down to the sign...
"welcome" banner is so adorable created with canvas paper sheet that I ripped a piece of cut into squares stamped the word "welcome" using black Stazon. I cut little bigger squares from the Kraft E-Flute sheet stitched them all together on my sewing machine then added to the clothespins. I just love the raw material look against the chalkboard paper.
Added some flowers and glimmer misted seam binding and fibers from the slate grey burlap...the word "home" is written in actual chalk!!!
I just love this little sign and it's ready to greet guest into our home.
Hope you all enjoy, hugs Peggy Lee

Canvas Corp :: Baby Love Canvas

BabyLoveCanvas photo BabyLoveCanvas_zps3c2bdefc.jpg

I've been watching Marion alter canvases thinking, "That's so awesome and something I could never do." I mean this is a project that goes on display. It's not tucked away in a album or sent off as a gift for someone. Canvases were made to be displayed and that meant my perfectionism has always whispered, "Don't even try it, girlfriend."
Well, Perfectionism. You can just SHUT IT because I DID IT and I LOVE IT!!! That flaw of perfectionism has just be beaten. Oh Yeah!! Toot Toot!!! <INSERT HAPPY DANCE>
I started this project off knowing only two things: I wanted to use these two pictures of me and I wanted to use the new Tattered Angels Chalkboard mist that I'd just received. That was it. Little did I know how special this project was going to turn out for me.

BabyLoveCanvas2 photo BabyLoveCanvasBannerClose_zps0cfa3268.jpg

The Prep & Background :: The first thing I did was to gesso my canvas. This turned it from a natural canvas color to bright white. This also meant the fabric wouldn't soak up the Tattered Angels charcoal chalkboard glimmer mist so I didn't have to use too much product to produce the color I wanted.
I used the Ampersand mask from Studio Calico to create a mask image while I sprayed the background. I should have waited until the canvas was dry to remove the mask but I'm an impatient crafter and I removed it too soon and mist got into places I did not want. So I had to think of a solution. The Fix: I took the same mask and traced it onto a piece of pink card stock from PapertreyInk. I cut around the traced image leaving a 1/4 inch border. Leaving the mask on I inked the entire cut out with versamark in and embossed it with pirate gold embossing power from Stampendous.
For the top of the canvas I used a piece of a Canvas Corp burlap diamond. I cut it in half then removed the seam and only used one side to add the large pennant shape behind the photos.

The Embellishment :: 7Gypsies Dome Apothecary Jars, Martha Stewart smoky quartz glitter, Canvas Corp diamond burlap shapes, Canvas Corp hemp cord, 7Gypsies antique brass mini keys, 7Gypsies school rulers display trim, Dear Lizzy white and gold letter stickers, Black and White sail away sampler, Ranger candy pink embossing powder.

This project is near and dear to my heart for a couple of reasons......

  • It really helped me channel my feelings of loss about my recent miscarriage.
  • I'm able to display it without having to frequently explain or talk about the loss.
  • It's a great subtle reminder of my little angel baby.
