You are Awesome :: Vintage Telegram Card + Tech Update

Inspiration can come from many places. Whether it be a walk in the park with your little one, a beautiful invitation you receive in the mail, or an inspired pin on your mood board....(Hello Pinterest).

And then there are those times when you come across a beautifully designed piece of patterned paper and it's like......Wow. Hello gorgeous!!!

That is what I thought when I saw the background paper I used for this card. I just knew it was calling me to craft.

Both the background paper and the frame are from Marion Smith's new printable Vintage Telegram. I went with lots of die cuts this time...My description in the sidebar does say "Die Cuts Diva" so I should live up to that name right?!

The Deets

  1. Download and print out your gorgeous vintage telegram printables
  2. Trim white card stock down to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 standard A2 sized card base.
  3. Trim the Suite printable patterned paper to A2 size.
  4. Punch photo corners from black card stock and adhere to Suite patterned paper.
  5. Die cut Hawaiian shores card stock using the "Turning a New Leaf" die and adhere to background
  6. Die cut the Dreamy printable patterned paper using the "Simply Jane" frame die.
  7. Cover a piece of scrap paper with washi tape and adhere to frame
  8. Punch the a leftover scrap of the Dreamy printable patterned paper and adhere to background.
  9. Die cut American Crafts POW glitter paper using the "Signature Series: Dress Form" die and adhere to washi tape using super sticky adhesive.
  10. Adhere frame to background
  11. Punch butterflies from AC Pow glitter paper and adhere to background.
  12. Embellish with enamel dots and a Martha Stewart label stamped with your sentiment

And there you have it. The die cutting took a little planning but once your rolling in inspiration it just flows. Make sure you hop on over to MarionSmithDesigns.com to pick up this kit and all the goodies that come along with it and get crafting. The Supplies

The photo corners, labels, and small butterflies are punched shapes from Martha Stewart. The dress form, the frame, and leaf die cuts are from Papertrey Ink. The sentiment stamp is from Ali Edwards. The background of the frame silhouette is washi tape from K&Company Smash line. A few enamel dots finishes off this card.

Vintage Telegram Card

I have been playing with Marion's new Vintage Telegram printables and wow they are so fun and beautiful designs to create with. So last night I wasn't in a creative mood (tired or creative block) I had started to create a card wasn't feeling it tossed it aside to revisit at another time. Have you ever done that? I have to many times...hehe
I was ready to give up then I grabbed my folder of the printables and while I was flipping through the folder the black and white prints just jumped out at me. About 1 hour later whooola this little gem of a card was born, and I love it so not my colors (yes no pink)!!
Card size is 4 1/4 x 6
Distressed all the edges of papers and inked in black soot distress ink.
Used Tim Holtz Alterations Sizzix dies (Distressed Doily and Gadget Gears).
Tissue tape from Prima Romance Novel line, gave a great boarder look to the edge of doily cutout.
I used Melt Art Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel in Platinum
to the gears to give depth and texture to the card.
Steps:
1. die cut out gears with chipboard
2. paint the chipboard gears black
3. press the chipboard gear pieces into VersaMark Ink
4. shake on embossing enamel  and heat set.
5. to take shinny finish away-I used sand paper to rough the enamel up...

Close up of flowers ohhh I love how the Graphite glimmer mist just shines!
It's cool how you can still see some of the before color peaking out in places.
Grab you glimmer and mist away!
I didn't have any black flowers so I went digging into my box of flowers and said perfect time to play with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
 Raven black and Graphite colors!!

Beach - Layout

I love living in Florida and so close to the beach.  When Jade called and said she was flying into Jacksonville and needed a ride to Daytona Beach - honey  I couldn't wait to take her on a tour of Florida's First Coast!  She dipped her toes in the sand of  three Florida beaches during her visit each with a a unique sandy surface.

Today I would like to share with you a layout that I created of our first stop - Velano Beach near St. Augustine.

For my layout I chose the following Canvas Corp products.  I love how simple and organic these products look.  Each reminds me so much of the beach.

Tattered Angels Plain Jane Sky, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Splash,
Canvas Corp Beach Sampler paper, Burlap Sheet, Twine Cord,  mini white paper bags, and kraft tags.

I wanted the layout to have a lot of white space so that I could show off the splashes from the Tattered Angels products to give the look of the sea foam splashing up on shore. I cut apart the Beach Sampler page to create the layers, and painted the burlap with white gesso sprayed with the Plain Jane Sky. The ATC sized Mini bag was a perfect holder for my journal tag. To give it a little character, I marbled gesso, Plain Jane Sky and Chalkboard Splash then dredged the white bag through the paints.

We collected the shells from the beach as a souvenir, so I thought it would be nice to use them on the layout.  The shells at the bottom of this layout were also from the beach.   I love how the shells provide an organic texture, while grounding  the layout.

Here is a close up of the layered section.

I would like to issue you a challenge.   Pull out some old travel photos, and create a layout or mini album, then share your project on the Artsy Addicts Facebook page.

Vintage Telegram Keepsake Box

A mini album needs a keepsake box to sit in...while shopping at my local dollar store I found this box and knew right off that I was going to alter it with Marion's new Vintage Telegram printables. I am thrilled with the way it came out so shabby vintage and wow I love pink. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy reading and gazing at all the photos there is alot but I wanted to make sure you could see every bit of this adorable box and how beautiful the printables are.
The box measures roughly 9x6.5, I had to print out two of each design I used. Which wasn't bad at all and with the scraps I fuzzy cut out images to pop up and give the box some depth.
My daughter found some dollar store frames that were green I painted them white, sprayed patina glimmer mist added cream paint, sanded sprayer tattered leather glimmer mist. Then dry brushed on gesso, sanded a little more and I love how it came out.
I distressed all the edges of the papers and cut a small piece of paper and glued it to the under side of the cover piece of paper to be able to roll the top layer back with having the under piece showing added some gems. This is a fun and creative way to showcase your papers!
Seam binding colored with glimmer mist!!
To give depth I glued a piece of chipboard under the cut outs to pop them up out of the frame. I really like to give height to my creations.
I tucked in tiny flowers and a wood piece along with some of the cut outs from the printables.
I sprayed patina glimmer mist on the eggs and added Stickles to the flowers.
The butterfly is cut out from one of the printable pages!!
This is my fav!!

Handmade stick pin from my stash, every projects needs a paper doily!
I love the little crystal gems peaking out here and there...

These printable pages Marion design are distressed beautifully!

Here is a video to share with you...enjoy!

Vintage Telegram Mini Album

Marion just released a new Mini Album Printable called Vintage Telegram.  If you love her Romance Novel Line with Prima Marketing, you are going to love this printable.  It is a mini album that compliments that line. You can purchase the kit at MarionSmithDesigns.com.

I couldn't wait to play with it, and I think it is an all time record for me - From printing to decorating - I created this mini in 8 hours.  WOW - can you believe it.

I used the Tim Holtz vintage typewriter die for the cover.  I used utee and gold ink to give it that brass look.   Then I used several of my Spellbinders Grand Caliber Labels dies to make pockets and die cut insert pages.  Love how they add a little interest to the book.  Below are some of my favorite pages in the book.

Here is a video of a page by page walk through of the mini.

Coin Envelope Mini Album Part 2 (Finished)

Part 2 of the coin envelope mini album I shared with you all last week, added some seam binding and little gems and beads to hang of the edge of the mini. I wanted to keep the mini simple and clean, trying my best not to over embellish the mini..
Which you all know how I love to junk up my mini albums.
created a little dangle
added a stick pin I got in a swap
Inside pages I kept pretty simple
just adding a paper doily with laces.
handmade tag to tuck into
 the coin envelope pocket
every album needs a little gem
or
two or three...
This little mini would look great with black and white photos.
Here is the finished album in the video below, hope you enjoy...

Happy Creating, hugs Peggy Lee

Guest Blogger Barbara Martineau

Hello you wonderfully, talented, crafty people! My name is Barbara Martineau and I want to thank you for welcoming me into your world! Please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a stay at home wifey of 10 years to my husband/best friend Dan, we have four energetic, zany yet inspiring children. I am a newbie at crafting and scrapbooking, but have always loved to draw and doodle. As a young girl I used to spend my days trying to draw all kinds of cartoon characters, especially She-Ra (that's right, the princess warrior). It was about three years ago when I stumbled upon crafting...I fell in love with all of those altered and mixed media projects I had seen on YouTube. I was introduced to Artsy Addicts because a wonderful friend, Ms. Terrie Surface aka oneCraftycookie, grabbed me (virtually) and brought me into this wonderful group! So here I am!

I love to alter things, especially cardboard and Styrofoam. My husband brings me all kinds of used packaging goodies (with his companies permission) for me to play with. One day he brought me a piece of Styrofoam packaging and I immediately saw a carousel! Here was my first one (I made it for my daughter):

I absolutely fell in love with it....so I decided to make a "Parisian" themed one:

Then I wanted to try something different, so I made one out of a cardboard tube hubby brought home for me:

And here is my latest "Spring Time" carousel:

So...that is pretty much "me" in a nutshell. I want to thank the awesome crew here at Artsy Addicts for allowing me to share myself with you all! If you are interested in seeing any more of my creations, you can check them out at the links provided :)

Have fun creating!
